I am trying to run Limewire under Vista Premium, 32 bit. When I click on the icon, the little hourglass displays briefly then goes away. Why won't it run?

I have had a similar problem with Quicken, but it went away.

I rebooted, downloaded the newest version of Limewire, and tried to run it as administrator - all without effect. I have used Limewire for years with no problem. I have done nothing to the computer recently except add 1GB RAM.

    Any ideas?

    hi kenD,

maybe is not the BEST way, but u always can try run in compatibility mode and run as "windows xp sp2" to check if your software will run properly. some softwares , in special old versions or not adaptabled, dont run on vista.

another step , uninstall the limewire and clear your registry entry to this sofware. reboot and go in safe mode, install again ( dont forget to give administrator permissions to ".exe" files of instalation.) and reboot back to normal windows to check if this process fix your problem.

    basic steps =)

so ... good luyck. i hope this help u.

Strange, LimeWire's only foible (for me) was its inability to connect to the server... Hence why I use MP3 Rocket now (which is basically a clone, but with some changes). ;)

I also have used Limewire for a long time with no problems. Thank you for the tip on MP3Rocket. I downloaded it, but it would not run either. It gave a clue however. The error box says "Unable to access jar file lib\mp3rocket.jar ". This is apparently a Java file; I know that Limewire uses Java. I remember recently disabling the Java Quick Start service and wondered if that could be the problem. Well, when I click on the Java icon in Control Panel, it does the same thing as Limewire, a brief hourglass then nothing. I then downloaded and installed the current Java from Sun, but it still won't work.

Incidentally, I downloaded Limewire 5 on another computer and hate it. What was wrong with the old version?

No, just download and install Java 6 update 13. I'll try the uninstall tomorrow.

The complete uninstall and install worked. Thank you!

Limewire 5 worked better than on my laptop, but I still don't like it. I downloded Frostwire, which is a clone of Limewire 4.
