So I finally got around to installing windows 7 beta - onto a freshly formatted HD but I've run into some problems. I found a post similar (but not helpful) to my problem on this site through a google search, so here goes.

    my system specs are:
    processor- AMD 2.4 GHz
    RAM-2 gigs
    Video- Geforce 6600 GT
    mobo-Biostar

    the issue:
I installed and was pretty excited cause it looked new and shiny.
I played some chess and solitare, listened to some music.
Then I decided it was time to take FireFox for a spin and ended up with a completely frozen computer within 5 minutes of browsing. Mouse and keyboard were unresponsive, the screen was completely frozen (no error or blue screen), and my little blinky case LED was dark and not blinky. CTRL ALT Delete didn't do anything so I had to resort to the power button to restart.

My first thought was that firefox wasn't working properly with the new OS (I had installed the latest version from their site) so I tried using IE for a while with the same frozen craptastic result.
Sometimes the freeze will happen right after I start browsing, but earlier today I browsed around for about an hour before I got a freeze.

So I then updated my video drivers (they are supposedly windows 7 compatible) was unable to manually locate any windows 7 drivers for my mobo stuff but the device manager says that everything is fine.
Now this hardware all worked perfectly just a day ago with XP so I'm pretty sure nothing has gone bad.

I was looking through the event logs and there are a number of Critical Errors all of which are from my illegal shut downs to restart after the freezes.
There are also a number of errors none of which seem to correspond time wise with the freezes but just in case:
    ex. #1
"The DNS Client service depends on the NetIO legacey TDI Support Driver service which failed to start because of hte following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning "
There are a bunch of these, all different services
    ex #2
"The Avast! Web Scanner service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly. "
I found this in regard to #2 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756339.aspx and gave it a try but got another Freeze as soon as I started step 3. :(

It just froze again while I wasn't using a browser.
All that was Running was Media Player.
The only errors that were logged were the illegal shutdown and restart ones.

I wouldn't have any idea. Remember, Win7 is only a beta, and an old beta (if you have the 'official' build 7000) too.
