I have 4 all xp pro computers in a peer-to-peer home network. Two computers are wired to a router and two computers are wired to the router via a wireless router. The wireless computers won't let the wired computers share their files if windows firewall is enabled. I don't have this problem with the directly router-wired computers. The wireless computers can access their files even with windows firewall enabled. So I have been disabling windows firewall on my wireless computers and I don't really want to do that. Does anyone know how to fix this? Perhaps there is a better firewall for the wireless computers that can be easier to set. I have virus checker and malware checker senabled on the wireless computers with active protection and have no problem with these. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Are the wireless computers using the same IP subnet as the wired ones? If you are not sure can you post the IP address and subnets of one of the wired and one of the wireless computers.

I use the same ip subnet for all. The address of the wireless was changed to match the wired.

I guess no one has any thoughts on this. Perhaps someone could suggest a firewall that wouldn't interfere with my peer-to-peer network?

It might be worth checking the Exceptions setting for your wireless connections. They may have taken up the settings for your original wireless network and not have changed when you changed the wireless IP to match those of the wired.

    • Go into "Windows Firewall" from the control panel.
    • Click on the Exceptions tab
    • Select "File and Print sharing" and click on the Edit button (I'm assuming this item is already ticked - if not, that's your problem!)
    • Make sure everything is ticked and then click on the "Change Scope" button.
    • The "My network (subnet) only" setting should work fine, but if that isn't working, try entering you own subnet via the "Custom List ". For example, 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0.

Reggie ... it wouldn't work with "my network (subnet) only" setting so I chose "Change scope and put in 192.168.1.1 (which is my wired address) then a comma then 192.168.1.2 (which is my wireless address) then /255.255.255.0. Still wouldn't work.
I have two wired computers and two wired computers and all are set to automatically chose their ip addresses. Am I doing it right?

    Try 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0
