A clean install of an OS is always the best. Just insert the CD in the drive and chose to install in full after a full format.

Yes, a clean install is always best. There's always a risk things won't work well doing an upgrade install over an existing OS. The risks increase when trying an upgrade on an upgrade...especially when you're trying to change the language at the same time.

So, I guess my advice is: don't try it unless you first back up all your data and you have the time to do a reformat and then reinstallation of all your software and hardware if it doesn't work out. ;)

Another vote for a full backup and clean install.

I concur with doing a fresh install. Always works much better. But my question is what does XP pro don't already have with XP Home? Do you need to attach to a domain? Or multiple processor support? XP Home Edition works just fine for most home users. However I know some people that just need Pro to attach to their company network / domain, or need dual processor support for their computer.
