Change MB battery while running?

Hi all,

Would replacing my MB battery while the computer is running save me from having to reset my BIOS settings? Or, does replacing the battery, running or off, lose my settings anyway?

 

Hi jpChris, as Steve has stated don't do anything inside the PC while it is switched on. In answer to your question when the CR2032 battery is removed from it's holder it has been my experience so far that nothing serious is affected. If you have your M/B instruction manual I would suggest you look in there in case there is a set procedure to follow. If not Start your PC and enter BIOS and take note of the current settings then when you shut down and switch off the AC power you will be able to change the battery and restart the comp. (Be careful not to handle the battery with sweaty fingers as this may cause bad contact later on.) When you restart > enter BIOS and check to see if all the settings are the same before you changed the battery. If things are different Load Default settings which should get you going again. Neil.
