I'm trying to figure out how to reinstall Microsoft Word 2003. Everytime I try to start the program, I get a message that I need to send an error message to Microsoft. Whichever option I click, it tells me Word closed incorrectly the last time and is recovering my documents, and then I get another message that I need to start in Safe mode. I've done this several times. So I decided I needed to reinstall the program. I put in the original CD, and went to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Microsoft Office > Highlight > Change > Add or Remove Features - Microsoft Word. I unchecked Word, followed the directions, then rechecked it and followed the directions. The next time I tried to open it I got the exact same error messages. What am I doing wrong?

There should be no need to insert the install CD unless requested. You should be able to uninstall/remove Word through Add/Remove Programs > Microsoft Office ..... Add or Remove Features > Microsoft Word. I would then reboot and re-install Word.

The alternative is to select the Repair option and let Windows repair your Office installation.

    Thanks

I did try both of those options, but still got the error messages and shut down of Word. I was finally able to resolve the issue by calling Microsoft tech support. They forwarded me to a technician who remotely took over my computer and changed a file in my registry and deleted a corrupted file (Normal.dot) that was apparently causing problems every time Word started up. While I've had remote tech support in companies where I have worked, I didn't realize Microsoft did this as well. A little scary, I must say, but it resolved my issues!
