I burned two dvds on my Optorite DVD RWDD1205 drive and on the third dvd it ran into some (power under run or something) error and quit burning. Then on a further try it didn't recognize the dvd drive. It would not be recognized on the second OS on the computer either. The Nero burner does recognize the drive for cds, however. The drive can now play cds but does not even play dvds (including commercial ones), let alone burn them.

So far, I have used Microsoft Utility which "deletes upper and lower shells ", but it has not effect on the performance.

Is there anything I can do to revive the drive (for dvds) short of replacing it?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drive in the device manager to no avail. The device manager says that the device is functoning normally.
