Hi ladysmurf. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

All you have to do to is format the harddrive and perform a fresh install of Windows XP. I assume you have a Windows XP CD? Read this, Clean Install of Windows XP.

Also make sure your labtop has drivers that are compatible with Windows XP.

    Before you try a format.

How can't you understand Vista? It's not that different to, say, XP SP3 (having seen the nicked features :D)

When I changed from Vista to XP PRO I went into Bios F-2 changed from AHCI to ATA restarted booted from CD did a clean install with no problems. BUT first go to comp support site download all compatible XP drivers save to cd or external HD you will need them. even then you may have to do some searching for some drivers. but this worked for me.

In Vista, go to Help and Support if you do not understand something. It is more helpful than Help and Support in Windows XP.

An outstanding feature is UAC (User Account Control), where you will come across a box that asks you if you are sure you want to allow the access to your system. It is a little annoying after running Windows XP, but I find it makes you think twice about what want to allow to happen on your system. If you are not used to the "Allow" boxes it may be annoying while you are setting up your system.

For a beginner, you might have a steeper learning curve reformatting to Win XP than learning any nuances in Vista.

My suggestion, you learnt XP, just pretend you are learning in Vista (and it's not that much different).

    Matt

I didn't find Vista to a problem. I thought fairly easy to use. I had to have XP PRO for my locksmith computerized tools to work.
