Just purchased this computer (acer) and am not familiar with Vista Home Premium. Have had it for two weeks and it was working perfect and then the last couple days it has crashed, froze up repeatedly and when restarted had difficulty re-opening (disk read error). When it finally did boot to menu there were messages like "corefoundation.dll was not found ", "acer(wide).scr not working ". Windows DVD maker was working and now won't burn Video DVDs. I have an internet security program (Norton) and performed windows malicious malware removal tool. Both came back fine...no viruses etc. Did system restore....removed a gazillion programs...nothing is working... Not sure what to do...Please help me!!

Please do not post Malware logs in the Vista forum. If you think you have Malware you need to post in the correct forum.

You should let us know the information about your system. When you joined you should have received information about adding your system details in your WindowsBBS User Profile (the program is in my signature).

You seem to have multiple areas where there are problems, so there may not be one solution.

corefoundation.dll seems to be mainly linked to iTunes. If you have it, uninstall it, see if the errors stop. If you want to reinstall it, check for any updates and make sure it is Vista compatible (look through the list of other installed programs and check those).

Open Start -> Computer, right-click on the Vista drive (C: ) and select Properties, go to the Tools tab -> Error Checking. Put checks in the boxes and click OK. It will say it needs to run after a restart.

Were there any unexpected problems, like shutdowns or power outages. Do you close all programs before shutting down?

Watch what you install. You haven't installed anything that might not be a "quality" program?

Is something "fighting" Vista for control of the DVD? There is a reset for the DVD, but let's see if you can get the system stable first.

Do you close programs you are no longer using? After a while, Vista will "fall over" if too many programs are running (unless you have a "muscle machine ").

acer(wide).scr is a screen saver, just try changing to a standard Windows one or "none" and set your monitor to shut down instead. Do you have problems after coming out of Power Saving mode?

If you find problems, do some searching in Help and Support. If you don't find the exact solution, you will improve your experience level. Do some websearches, you might not find the exact solution, but you may be able to lead us (or yourself) closer to a solution.

Try to think if there are any common factors. Did you install something or change settings just before the problem happened (or like I said, something like a power blackout).

I see you edited your last post. I saw it but didn't have time to answer. You said it was going better. What is the situation like now? Do you need information about the DVD drive?

Good that got the burner going.

I haven't worked on videos much, but are you saving it to the computer before burning it? If you save the file/s, if you play them in a video player before burning them, do they seem OK?

Where do you play the videos, on your computer or on a standalone DVD player/drive connected to the TV? Test on a different drive or even on a different computer.

Track down at what stage the "lag" is occurring. Is it, say, because the CPU is doing other things at the same time as burning? Try restarting the system before you capture the video from the camera and try burning it.

You should try uninstalling and reinstalling the burning software, that might reset it. Also consider any software you use to capture it from the camera.

...or just pretend you are watching an old Kung Fu movie :D...sorry:p:)

See if you can get some leads here:
    http://forum.videohelp.com/topic316884.html
although it goes into getting software for repairing the file.

You don't give much information about how you are doing the capture, although many suggestions I saw were along the same lines as I mentioned in the last post.

A video software manufacturer's forum said it was "the hardware ". At another forum blamed was put on the model of burner and getting "recommended blank disks ".

Some capture software has audio syncing settings.

If you are capturing from a camera, I always look at using the software from the camera manufacturer.
