    Hi all,

I have a situation where there are 2 buildings in a business center. The main internet comes into building A through a cisco box (details of which I do not know but is not important) and then from here is going into a netgear ProSafe 24 port 10/100 switch (model 23 JFS524) and then from this switch into 3 seperate fibre converters (FT 802) 10/100Base-TX to 100Base-FX which go into a fibre optic patch panel which feeds into the ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor in building B.

In building B, they then come from the same type of converters, through a RJ-45 cat5 cable into a netgear ProSafe 24 port 10/100 switch (model 23 JFS524) and all floors internet work fine.

Now on the 1st floor of Building B, they have a CCTV device and need a internet connection coming into this from building A and they need it to come through another set of fibre converters.

From building A, comms room B, I have connected a cable from the main feed switch into a patch panel, and then from comms room A (which has the fibre optic patch panel) I have a cable coming from the corresponding port on the patch panel from comms room B, and this then needs to go into a fibre converter and then patched to the other building. Before connecting it directly to the converter, I connected to my laptop and tested it, and there is a internet connection so I know up to the first converter there is a connection, however, when connected to the converter the only light that comes on is for the power.

But before connected the power, I connected the fibre to the patch panel for building B and from building B I connect the converter from the corresponding port in the fibre patch panel, but no internet connection is coming through here.

I matched the settings on the converter in building A exactly the same as the other 3 converters in the same comms room, which is to have FDX (full duplex) and the LFP switched on, as with the others but still no connecteion.

Both converters were connected at both ends 1st before switching the power on either of them, but this did not make a difference.

Can anyone tell me if I am missing something obvious here??? as I am very  !!! lol.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Kind Regards

I'll read this several more times but it's pretty confusing.

Can you list the Channel from one end to the other please?

    Example:
XXXX Model Media converter to ST/SC Patch Cord into a SC Fiber Patch panel on port x
Comes out the other end of the patch panel on SC Port X and goes into another SC to ST patch cord into Media Converter XXXX

You do know that send and receive are reversed on the opposite end correct?

If the building to building segment of fiber is good and has been certified then the second most common problem is dirty connectors.
Do you have a cleaning kit?
Lint Free Swabs for the female ends and wipes for the male ends.

Thank you for your response. It was just a case of the send and recieve not being reversed!!!! DUH... So I just reversed them over and all was OK. Simply I know, must have confused myself whilst running between the buildings, lol.

    Thanks again. :D
