I have an old computer which I am donating to our local animal shelter. My husband insisted that I have the hard drive wiped as we had financial information on this computer. I took the computer to a local shop and I am being charged $35 to have the hard drive wiped. If they were to reload everything the cost jumps to $119. This would not be cost effective. I was told that locating drivers for this system would be hard. I am not sure where to find these on the internet. I am a beginner but I would like to try to reload the computer. I would appreciate any "how to" help I could receive as I have never done this before. Here is a list of the discs I have.

    NEC CDR-26OR Driver and Install
    Disk 1 - Setup MS-DOS Series
    Disk 2 - MS-DOS Series
    Disk 3 - MS-DOS Series
Windows 98 for distribution with a new PC only

Most of the the information and drivers you need will be wiped from the hard drive. Can you get the computer back from the shop before they wipe the hard drive? The wiping is the easy part you could do for yourself. Save $35.
Any chance you have some old back-ups?
Did you ever make an emergency start-up disk?
Do you have the Windows license and product key?

What do you know about this computer?
    Brand
    Year made
Brand and model number of motherboard
    Processor type and speed
    Memory type and size
    Chipset
    Brand of hard drive
    Size of hard drive
Brand and model of Optical Drive
    Floppy drive
    Brand and model of Modem
Brand and model of Network card
    Anything & everything.

The information about your software disks is not clear. What exactly is written on the labels?

Do you have any manuals or documentation?

Is it possible to just donate the computer and the software, and let the people at the animal shelter do the work? They can poll their support network and maybe find a computer person willing to help.

You might learn something from this project, but it is likely to be more work than you think, with possibly a lot of frustration, depending on whether you have the patience for it, and a sense of humor. Something like this is hard to do posting to a forum, because I can't see your computer and only can know what you tell me. Your ability to communicate is crucial. Even so, this could take a long time.

    Still want to try?

Get the computer back, and use a driver extraction program, and you won't have to look for them.

BTW, you won't need these to install windows.
    Disk 1 - Setup MS-DOS Series
    Disk 2 - MS-DOS Series
    Disk 3 - MS-DOS Series
    But you may need this.

You will need a bootup floppy, a Go to Control Panel\Add Remove Programs, click on Startup Disk tab, and follow the prompts.

Driver install after hard wipe for Windows 98 os

I tried a bunch of times to make a boot up floppy and was unsuccessful.
The hard drive has been wiped.
I am going to follow antik's suggestion and let the animal shelter folk work on reloading the computer.
For antik, I do have the Windows license and product key. Will that help anyone tying to restore this system?

    Yes. Very important.

I think you have made a wise decision.
