I read the sticky about moving the My Documents, favorites, and address book files to another drive. The move was successful.:) But now the wierd stuff starts. :(The links tooolbar disappeared from the Taskbar. Also, I can not get to my favorites without tracking it down in the D drive. Is there a way to change the target folder for the favorites shortcut in the start menu?

    Steve,

If you right-click on the 'shortcut', the select 'properties'. You should be able to change the "target" in the dialog that pops up.

There isn't anywhere to change the target. I've tried that allready. The shortcut is part of the start menu. If I remove the links folder from the C: drive then the taskbar can' find it.

Okay, I get it now!! I need to make sure I read the post correctly. ;)

I'm guessing in order to associate your 'favorites' folder with the new drive, you would have to track it down and change it in the registry. I don't feel comfortable giving you 'registry' information (I have just enough knowledge to make me dangerous).

The are several members that are very familiar with the Registry. Hopefully someone can get you sorted.

If you are comfortable editing the Registry, go to the following Key:

    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Open the String Value named Favorites by double-clicking it. Change the path to conform to your new location. Click OK and exit the Registry.

    One down, One to go

Thank you, that fixed the favorite's issue.:D Now, I also moved the Office Outlook '07 .pst files to the D: drive. I now have 2 archive.pst and 2 outlook.pst files. Can you tell me where the registry entries are for those?

No Registry editing is required for moving the Outlook archive file.

Open Outlook and Click Tools > Options > Auto Archive tab > and type your new path or else click the Browse button and go to that location. The folder must be previously created so you can select it. If you type a location that doesn't exist, you'll get an error message saying it is not valid. OK out when finished.

Before closing Outlook, click File > Archive > and correct the path shown there to reflect your new location, same as way above. OK out and close the program.

You can now manually delete the pst file from the old location (normally in the My Documents folder) since it will no longer be referenced. Do NOT delete the pst file from the Windows directory.
