Can hear low sound when playing on game sites but volume up button doesnt make it any louder.About a moth ago started hearing an explosion sound in background only when on MY SPACE.Started searching for an answer then(thats how I found this site)and found no questions even close to mine.2weeks ago sound stopped working(except for as stated above).I dont have speakers hooked into it not on mute anywhere I can find dont have a micophone and all volume adjustments are on high.Ran troubleshooter and got all devices in working order. What am I missing-not doing or doing wrong?Hope I filled in all my specs right (confused novice on that)and hoping you can send me in the right direction.

i know you said all ur volumes are maxed (no muted).
i still suggest to take an other look:
in WinXP (I think 2k as well) never used vista.
go to control panel and check the Sound and Audio devices:
    Volume Tab:
    - verify "device volume ".
(you can check in the advanced but thats the same control that you get from ddble clicking the sound icon on your task bar)
    Check speaker settings
    - Speaker volume
    - Adanced make sure that "no speakers" is not selected.
    Sounds Tab
    - Make sure that no sound theme is not activated (back in the w98 days this use to be the most common cause of no sound)
