Hi all, Looking for help retrieving old compress files. Did a search and found no files. Trying to delete some files to add space. How do I find zip files? Any ideas.

Thread moved to the Windows XP forum - if you are not using XP let us know, but the advice below still holds ....
In Windows Explorer use the Search function to search for *.zip on all your hard drives.

Using XP, I've tried that and still nothing. I believe that I have old music compressed into files and I need to delete. I even *.mp3 and got nothing, can't figure out where else these files would be.

Believe it or not, the compact command will "˜decompress‘ folders/files that have been compressed. This example will decompress all files on drive C: (the capitals are for clarity only but note the spaces):

Click Start > Run, type cmd and press Enter.
Type CD C:\ and press Enter (change to the root folder of drive C).
Type COMPACT /U /S /I /F /Q and press Enter (decompress the whole of drive C).
When it finishes, close the cmd window. It will take quite some time to do the whole drive.

EDIT. Sorry but I've possibly misread your problem. My instructions will decompress files that have been compressed using Windows not .zip files.

I think we are at cross purposes. I did apologise for misreading your post. The Compact command will not unzip your .zip files. It will decompress files that are (usually) shown in a blue font.

PeteC gave you the answer above.

It’s possible that they are stored in a hidden folder. Go to Folder Options > View Tab, scroll down to ‘Hidden’ files and make them shown. Then do the Search for .zip.

Zip files/folders are deleted in the same way as any other file, i.e. right-click > Delete.
