Hi William. The reason phising protection in Norton is turned off is because IE8 has the smart screen filter enabled. If you want Nortons phishing protection on try this. Open IE. Click Tools< Internet Options< Advanced tab. Under security uncheck the enable smart screen filter checkbox. Restart Internet Explorer and try turning on Nortons Phishing Protection.

    Ie8

Downloaded IE8. No problem in downloading but found out a bit later that Power Point would not work. Deleated IE8 and had no more problem. Any Ideas?

Hi artbea. Please don't hijack this thread. Your problem has nothing to do with the issue the original poster had. Please start a new thread instead. Thanks!

    Hi William,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

For compatibility with the newly released Internet Explorer 8, you should take advantage of the free update to Norton AntiVirus 2009, which is compatible with IE 8.

As long as your subscription is valid you are entitled to this update, which is highly recommended. Please NOTE, that while this process will update your installation to Norton AntiVirus 2009, it will not extend your subscription.

    1. To update, please visit the Norton AntiVirus Update Center at the link below, and click on the "Continue" button to proceed.

    Norton AntiVirus 2009 Update

    2. When prompted, enter your existing Activation Key to activate the 2009 version.

    3. When the installation is complete, launch Norton AntiVirus and choose "Run LiveUpdate," which will download and install any available product and definition updates. This will also invoke the new "Pulse Updates" feature which will automatically check for and install definition updates in the background every 5-15 minutes to keep you protected against the latest threats.

    4. When the updates are complete, click on the "Scan Now" link and perform a "Full System Scan" to make sure there are no infections on your computer.

    Thank you,
    Mike

Hello. Mike, Thank you for your reply. I followed your instructions. My Activation Key was not accepted. I had no option but to purshase the 'free update' in order to protect my computer as my existing product had already been removed at this stage.
Would you please examine my Norton Account and take action as necessary in view of the fact I have now paid twice for the service. At this moment I don't know what protection I have. Regards, William.

    Hi William,

I apologize that you had a problem with your existing Activation Key. I do not have the ability to check subscription status.

There are a few ways that you can check on the status of your subscription. The first way is to log on to the My Norton Account Page below.

    My Norton Account

If you are unable to log on, etc, I would suggest that you contact the Norton Customer Service department for assistance directly at the link below. On this page you have the option to use the Chat support, email or you can call.

    Norton Customer Service

    Thank you,
    Mike

    IE8 with Norton 360 version 2

    Hi Mike,

I have the same problem on my Windows Vista Premium and IE8, but with Norton 360 version 2, instead of Norton Antivirus. The Norton 360 displays Identify Protection details as "Your browser is not set to detect fraudulent Web sites or to authenticate genuine Web sites." I need to fix it every time I open a new browser.

    Hi Ivan,

For compatibility with IE 8 you need to update to Norton 360 version 3, which is a free update, as long as you have a valid subscription. Please NOTE, while this will update you to the latest version of Norton 360 it will not extend your subscription.

To update, please visit the Norton 360 Update Center at the link below.

    Norton 360 Update Center

Once the update is complete, launch Norton 360 version 3, mouse-over the "PC Security" bubble and choose "Check for Updates." When the updates have been installed, restart your computer and then run "Check for Updates" again to make sure you get all available updates applied.

Open Norton 360 version 3, click on the "Help & Support" link and choose "About." The version number should read 3.0.0.135.

Next, complete a "Comprehensive System Scan" with Norton 360 to check for infections.

    Thank you,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the link. I've updated to Norton 360 version 3. It's a much matured product than Norton 360 version 2.

A little feedback to you as you're part of the Norton support team. Somehow I attempted comprehensive system scan twice and both times failed. Besides, it routed me to do the backup before scanning, whereas it stated on the screen that it should scan before doing the backup. And Norton 360 version 2 backup seemingly could not be found by version 3. Anyway, it's only a transitional issue to me.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Ivan,

Thanks for the update and I'm happy to hear that you successfully updated to version 3.

Make sure that you manually run LiveUpdate (possibly multiple times), and restart after the updates are installed, prior to running a "Comprehensive Scan." If you still get an error message, please post a screenshot of the error.

For the issues you are having with the Backup feature, make sure that you are restoring the files from the location where you had backed them up when you were using version 2.

    Thanks,
    Mike
