im wondering if installing windows xp over windows me is better or is it better to install windows xp fresh. it seems that i cant install any cd copy software especially for music (mp3 converting).
just an example cd creator 5.0 wont remove or install or update for me.(really frustrating)

that takes me to "i wonder if a fresh install of windows xp will rectifie that ".

I have always thought a clean install was the best way to go. The main site, and many topics in this forum will tell you why it is a good idea. In my opinion, you will generally have more probelems if you upgrade, but less if you clean install

doing an upgrade is like trying to seperate mustard and ketchup :D

I got a second thing on that as well.

    Absolutely right...
    Before doing the Clean install.
Go ahead, install the lesser one that you don't want to use.
but first partition about 4 gigs from your C:\ Drive.
    Then install
windows on the C:\ does not matter which flavor
Go out and find the current Windows XP update drivers for all the hardware on your MB.

Stick these in the 4 Gig Partition in a folder called Updates
    Each under its own. ie

    C:\
    D:\Updates\
    Motherboard
    Video
    Sound
    Modem
    etc. etc.
    E:\ (secondary HDD)
    F:\ (CDRom)
Now then prior to upgrading to WidnowsXP copy all files AND folders to the 4 gig.
    boot from floppy boot disk
    Next format C:\
    change to D:\
    run Setup and install WindowsXP
Store the WidnowsXP in a location it won't get used or harmed...
Because windows will NEVER ask for the original CD.
