    Hi,
    I was trying to install the windows XP in the laptop , where XP was already installed earlier. Installation was started fine , but after partitioning and formatting the C: drive , while the machine was restared, the same screens were displayed again. ( i.e. it was copying the files from CD). But after copying the all files, the screen was moved to Recovery Console .
    I didn't have idea about Recovery Console (RC), so learnt all the commands of RC and try to use in the following way :
    C:> diskpart
    It was successfully showing all the partitions, I created. ( C-> 10GB, D-> 20GB , E-20GB)
    C:> chkdsk /p
    It was not showing any error
    C:> chkdsk /r
    No bad sectors were found
    C:> bootcfg /scan
    The error message was like : "Unable to scan due to corrupted file system. Use chkdsk to locate that....... "

    But using chkdsk I didn't found any error. Now the scenario is , I cannot process further to install the XP even after rebooting the laptop also. Because , once after booting it is finally reached to RC. Few months back, I installed the XP with this CD only. So it is not the CD error.
    Please help.

    Did you do a standard format or quick format? Best results when do a standard format, never do quick format when installing.

    Thanks for your response. But Last times , I did a standard format and this times , as I said earlier, after booting the laptop from XP CD , it is directly moved to Recovery Console without asking any option. ( I didn't press R also to select it )
    Today I was able to install Window 98 without any error. But while I tried to install the XP again , same problem was occurred. We were able to install XP with this CD in other machine successfully.
    Is it possible to start XP installation from the Recovery Console ?

    No - it is not designed for that operation, as the name suggests it is an aid to recovering an install which has problems ....
    What is puzzling here is that the Recovery Console is not installed by default and I have no idea why the installation process is defaulting to the Console.

    I suggest you start over following my notes outlined below ....
