I run Windows XP and have Family Tree Maker 2009 installed. I have not used it since last Tuesday when I had no problems but today had an inquiry about some dates and went to open it and received an error as attached. I ran uninstalled the FTM program after saving my backups and reinstalled but still the same, would not open and received the error that a problem has occurred and Family has to close and to let Microsoft know so they can improve Family Tree. I am not having any problems with any other program.

I am also getting message that Office 2003 is not valid and a star like icon on bottom toolbar.

Thanks I followed your advice but while I found a lot of information on FTM2009 I didn't find any relating to my problem. I still have not been able to access. The computer person at my partner's work has offered if computer is taken into workplace he will have a look but it will mean I may be without a computer for several days which I would rather not have to go through if possible.

Did you register and post your problem on the FTM forum?

H R Worthington - TeamFTW is extremely helpful.

The Family Tree Maker forums are more likely to know how to solve a problem with FTM software.

You say "I am not having any problems with any other program." but then add "I'm also getting message that Office 2003 is not valid and a star like icon on bottom toolbar. "

If you left click or right click on that star icon, what happens?

Is Office 2003 installed and working OK?

    Hi 2007carmeld -

One other thought is to go to

    http://ftm.custhelp.com

enter 1917 in the search box to get detailed instructions on how to manually remove all traces of a failed FTM install.

Then try installing FTM again on a clean boot with all security programs turned off and the computer in Safe Mode with Networking.

If that does not work, go back to the cutomer help site and enter 3749 in the search box and follow the instructions for XP.
