Does anyone know whether Windows 7 will be closer in operation to Windows Vista or Windows XP? I still have Windows XP because I thought Windows Vista would be a whole new learning experience for me and I did not want to undertake all that new learning. Thank you. abm

Windows 7 is essentially a development of Vista and in appearance and operation is very similar to Vista.

    Hi ABM,
Like you I didn't really feel Vista was me, but since using Win7 (As Hawk said Vista2), I wish I had gone down that path, I can get my way around windows fairly easily, no matter the #, In a way I am glad I waited for a newer release than vista, But can't wait till the retail version is available for 7, I have only been using Xp since mid 2006, I was more than happy to use 98SE & ME until then, even though I had some experience :( with Xp back in 2002 which was probably why I steered clear of it till then.
    Regards
    Jac

PS : I am currently Dual booting XP home & Win7.
Remember!!!! Win7 is still a Beta version & I would not install it to a computer that you use every day unless it is dual booted, it is not the final product; but an offer by the developer for the public to test it!

You have other options as well besides dual booting. You can use a virtual PC software to simulate Windows 7 (for example Virtual PC 2007) and you can use an older computer that maybe is just laying around. What you should when you try-out Windows 7 is to run your old software to establish if you need to change versions when it is time to change OS.

Yes you can run Win7 in a Virtual PC but you will not experience as good of performance as
if you had it installed on a regular hdd partition it will be a lot slower. :(

Now as for abm's original question yes Windows 7 is like what hawk22 said basically Win7 is
just Vista SP2 with a lot of improvements over Vista especially with the UAC and memory and
    resource usage. :)
