Is IE8 worth installing when it breaks most of the web sites ? I never thought that being standard compliant could be so tough.

On a side note, how is it going to react [I hope its the right word] with IETab & similar extensions in Firefox ? Would there be option to revert to IE7 type of behavior for sites that don't play well with IE8 ?

    IE8->Tools->Compatibility View Settings.

I've Only had to use this on ONE site out of hundreds that I have visited.

    Lucky you.

My primary browser is FF & I use IETab extension to view sites which refuse to work in FF [almost all the bank sites in India !].

I am worried that if I install IE8, then the extension would not work as it uses the installed IE to display the pages & IE8 may not work on these sites.

    Then don't install it:)

Or clone you drive before installing it.

Good advise. I think I would wait for a few days before taking the plunge.

Based on MS's track record, I'd wait until the real thing is released, then wait to see how it works on other people's machines. I find MS to be problematic, so I wouldn't go near anything of theirs label Beta.
But this is just my opinion.

I also don't believe in installing betas on my machine until & unless its critical for me. :)

This applies to MS & to all other software developers.

    Two Thumbs Up

I installed IE 8 yesterday and so far am quite pleased with it. Was a little painfull installing with dial-up (approx. 3 hours to download and install program and updates:eek:) Even on my dial-up (50.6 Kbps) pages seem to load faster than with IE 7. It takes a little longer to initially load the IE 8 program but a few more seconds is OK with me. Have had no problems with any web sites so far, but time will tell.

    So far two thumbs up!!:D

I installed IE 8 this morning and not impressed! It takes over 30+ seconds to load IE 8 and really don't see any changes that I would write home about. Am I missing something?

It takes 19 seconds to load my IE 8 using a local file for home page.

Thought of a benefit for you.

I got IE8 last night and so far I'm happy with it. The only problem that I am having with it is for some reason the "read email" button in the browser isn't working. It was working in IE7 though. Anyone else experiencing this problem? I'm using Outlook 2000 (don't know if that makes a difference)?
