Sometimes I have to turn off UAC for IE to work properly under Vista SP1

ShrinkPic (a 3rd party app that automatically resizes pictures selected for attachment to an e/mail note) works perfectly when "Run as administrator" is chosen for it under Vista SP1 and the web-based e/mail systems Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail or AOL Mail are accessed through Firefox 2. However, when I access those sites via Internet Explorer 7 or 8 ShrinkPic will work fine with Windows Live Hotmail but not with Yahoo Mail, GMail and AOL Mail unless I have previously turned off UAC on the administrator-level user account that is my normal Windows user account.

If I enable the normally hidden Master Windows Administrator account and log on with it, Shrinkpic works fine with IE and all the e/mail systems. But using that account as a production account is usually never advised.

In passing, ShrinkPic works with all the web-based e/mail accounts when I use Internet Explorer on my Windows XP3 system. The ShrinkPic vendor also claims that the program version (1.6) I have is compatible with Vista and IE.

So, the problem would appear to be within my system/setup.

It looks like I have a security-related problem. Perhaps an IE setting? Perhaps a Vista setting? Why is everything hunky-dory when using Firefox but I have this odd UAC issue when using IE? It is particularly odd that there's no problem with one (namely,Hotmail) of the web-based e/mail services.

I've sent a query to the ShrinkPic vendor but have not yet received a reply.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions (other than "why not just leave UAC off ").

    UAC Vista problem solved

The supplier of Shrinkpic released Version 1.7 on March 18, 2009. This fixed
    the problem I was having.
