I have about 300 Favorites on my Windows XP computer. I am planning to purchase a brand new Windows XP computer. Without my having to buy one of those special file-transfer machines what is the best way to transfer my Favorites to my new Windows XP. Can I put my Favorites on a floppy disk or CD-RW (and how would I do that) and if so, how would I install the disks on the new computer so that I could get them all in the same position with the same headings? Thank you very much. abm

On the old computer open IE .....

File > Import & Export > and follow the wizard to export to a file, either directly to a USB stick or save to hard drive and burn to CD or copy to floppy - if the new computer has a floppy drive.

On the new computer open IE .....

File > Import & Export > and follow the wizard to import and browse to the location of the file when instructed - USB stick, CD or floppy.

To PeteC: Thank you for your message. When I click "Export Favorites" and "Next ", a screen comes up stating "Export to a file or address" and a blank to fill in the name of the file or addresss. Please tell me what should I type in the blank. Thank you very much. abm

In IE 7 the Export to a File or Address defaults to .....

    C:\My Documents\bookmark.htm

If your window is blank I suggest you use that location and then copy bookmark.htm to a USB stick or burn to CD .... the file size will only be a few Kb.

    To PeteC again

I dId exactly as you said. I filled in the blank "C:\My Documents\bookmark.htm" and it worked. I saved it to a CD-RW and when I install it on my new computer I hope it goes to the toolbar where Favorites should go. Thanks again. abm

To PeteC: I put my newly created CD-RW disk into the new Windows XP computer. When the Import Wizard said to type in a file or address I couldn't figure out what to type in. What do I type in to get the Favorites into the new computer. Thank you. abm

In the Import/Export wizard - Import Favorites Source click on the Browse button and navigate in the Explorer type window to the CD drive, locate bookmark.htm, highlight it > Open. You are returned to the Import/Export Wizard window with the Import from a File or Address now filled in with the location of bookmark.htm - if your Cd drive is D:\ and there is nothing else on the CD the path will be D:\bookmark.htm.

    Then click on Next .....

Import Favorites Destination Folder - by default Favorites should be at the head of the list and highlghted > Next > Finish.

I successfully transferred my Favorites to my new computer but I had a little trouble finding the Drive to send it to. On my new computer the CD-RW disk that I inserted was on the E drive. (I don't understand that but it doesn't matter). Thanks again. abm
