    Hi All,
well this can only be related from what my son tells me!??

Scenario at the time : household has 2 laptops & 4 desktops all but 1 laptop was wireless at the time but now is,

The son brings his desktop down for upgrades (No Internet at Home) Connects via cable/wire (I have a hardwire set-up for doing system build-ups which he uses)

For privacy goes down to the shed & signs in : MSNGR AND WHATEVER
(Out By The Pool Entertainment System! No not media centre! Mind you this is one of my computers, his is upstairs doing updates, remember!!!)

Last weekend when he was down home & went into msngr (On The Shed Compter), the daughter pops up? on MSNGR (She was not at home & her computer was definately turned off)
Well he cops a virus warning which is contained!!!!! even though I am running freeware Avira on that wirelessly connected computer!

BUT all week he has had numerous phone calls about the virus he is spreading!!!!???? and is ringing me constantly telling me that his step-sister is sending him virus's, (She; has closed?? the email account that this was all supposed to stem from & has gone back to an old email account? ) & He tells me tonight he has no Anti-Virus software on his computer   thank G' he has no Internet connection at home!!

Any Advice greatly appreciated before the divorce hearing
    Jac

Sounds to me like her MSNGR account got hijacked and is now being used by someone else to infect her contacts or those in her address book (also hijacked). I would also surmise that Jr has a good chance of being infected and is spreading similar ill. However, quite often malware will select random names from a contact list or address book and use that name or names as the "from" address. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find this was done not through messenger, but rather, through MySpace, Facebook or a P2P program. And, if you haven't yet been bitten yourself by Jr or his step-sister, I'd expect its only a matter of time unless you've got some pretty good defenses set up.

    Are we having fun yet?

    ;)

Well Rock I'm Fine, the daughter doesn't seem to worried, the wife is still mad about the accusations, and the son is still trying to work his computer out!
I agree I think it is probably as you said, but most likely the book, is it possible that this is a web based virus and is possibly backtracking? (son likes to use uTorrent, have warned him, especially after it took over my main comp, & I only used it once!!!!)
    Thanks for the advice,
    Jac

PS: some of the family where near the fires but luckily not badly affected

    Hehehe :D

Sounds like you have your hands full. I guess time will tell and there are enough threats out there today that its tough to know where some things come from. It can be as innocent as clicking on a Google search link.

As to your wife's frustration with the accusations, you have my full sympathy. Personally, I've been trying to master an old binary dialog but am apparently still having learning issues based upon the feedback I am getting. I recently enrolled in a phonics class focused upon the proper enunciation of Yes Dear.

This brings to mind the mantra of a very wise man who has been enshrined in the BBS Hall of Fame.
    ;)
