    Vista 32/64 bit system, SP1.

Is there an equivalent to "What U Hear" in Vista or
some setting that will equate to it?

I am unable to record any sounds at any bit (8, 16, 24)
settings. I do have the on-board Realtek turned off so
that the system will use only the sound card (Creative SB).
I'm sure its not a problem with the sound card because
this is the 3rd card I've used.

Looking at the Control Panel>Sound, the settings are:
    1. Playback:
    a. Digital Outout Device (HDMI) - working
    b. Speakers SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio - working
    c. Digital Audio Interface - working

    2. Recording:
    a. Microphone - working
    b. Line-In - working
    c. Auxiliary - Currently unavailable
    d. S/PDif-In - Currently unavailable

I can't believe how un-responsive the Creative SB
forum has been....Thankfully Windowsbbs is much
better at speedily, factual and reliable replies.

If you feel this needs to be moved to another discussion
group then by all means, please do so.

    thanks,
    savagcl

Hi, when you say you can't record any sounds does that mean neither Microphone and Line in or just one of them.
Have you made sure that that you have un-ticked "Mute" in both Microphone and Line in and the Volume is up.
I don't know of any feature in Vista Like what U hear, but you can try setting up your Microphone in Skype they have a test your Audio where to talk into your Microphone and then then they will play it back to you, might give you some idea.

    Hi Hawk22,

"What U Hear" was a device (under XP) that allowed any sound coming
through the sound card to be captured to the HD. Its not in Vista (only MS knows why).

Both Line-in and Mic are working (not muted) but i'm not sure if they can be
used to record music from the sound card Line-in should work but an
external (outside player) device is needed that has a Line-out connection
from it to the sound card Line-in.

I have a Creative Audigy SE sound card that should be able to record
music but with the "currently unavailable" status, it wont work.

I need to find out how to activate those currently unavailable devices from vista or creative software.... Ideas?

    thanks for the response,
    savagcl
