MS Word Won't De-Select

    This is an occassional problem. I highlight some block of text, then if I change my mind and try clicking elsewhere on the document the select does not disappear but extends to where I clicked. If I go back to the insertion point, I still have a black rectangle highlighting that space. Esc does not work. I have to close the document and re-open it. Any thoughts?

    It wouldn't hurt to mention which version of Word you're using.

    How occassional is occassional?
    Are the doc's pretty simple in nature or are they pretty complex?

    Office 2003. The documents are pretty simple, not a lot of advanced formatting.
