How do I uninstall Win98SE?

Recently installed 98SE on a clean hard drive.Was going to use as a base for a dual boot setup.Installed OK but could not access internet unless I had dialup.
98 did not recognize my cable connection. USB thumbdrives went unnoticed.Could not install drivers that way.
Tried to install from MaximumPC disks. Got the message saying "an illegal operation was performed" then shutdown to desktop.
I have since purchased a new XP Home disk and installed over 98.Have converted fron FAT32 to NTFS. Now would like to completely remove 98SE from system, if possible. Could someone tell me the procedure?

 

The XP install went smoothly. Told to use whole partition.
Did have to rename folder for XP since 98 already had folder named Windows. Now have Windows and XPHome folders.

 

I suggest first renaming your old Windows folder to anything else, to see if something screams for something missing. If nothing comes up amiss after a few days of operation, then delete the folder.

By old, you are referring to the Windows folder created by 98SE?
After a few days, safe to rename XPHome folder to Windows if no problems develop. Am I reading you correctly?

 

Yes, I mean your Windows 98SE folder.
Do not delete or rename the XPHome folder, as that is your new "windows" folder for XP. I don't think it would be possible since you have a NTFS file system on it now, but if you did XP would not work.
I don't know what you have, but if it is the XP Home Upgrade CD, and have your MS windows 98 CD, why not just use the XP CD to do a full format on the drive and perform a clean install of XP. During the installation of XP you will prompted for proof of a previous version, you just swap out the XP for the 98, let it 'examine' it, and swap them back to continue the installation.
If your 98SE CD is also an Upgrade, it will qualify. I know this from experience as I have a MS OEM Win95, and a MS Upgrade 98Se, and these both qualify. Both of these have the MS logo in them.

98SE was original.
XP is OEM.
Both are full, not upgrade, disks.

I would if just do a complete new install of xp thats if you have the have the full xp op disk not the upgrade.Clean it all off ie the old stuff & start new

Pretty much what happened. Ended up with XP on a FAT32 partition, but no mention of 98SE when booting the machine.
Now have a Windows folder from 98SE and a renamed XPHome folder from the XP installation.
I consider it good to go.
