I have a desktop pc with a netgear wireless router connected to an hp printer. There is no bother printing anything with this standard setup. However the printer I purchased also came with a server box allowing me the function to connect the printer wirelessly.

I have tried and tried to figure our the connection setup for having both the desktop and the laptop using the server/non server connection. Without success.

The printer has a normal printer connection cable.
The server has a. a power lead, a small usb type connection slot for setting up the printer to the server with is later removed. and finally a normal usb slot (Which the priner cable connects into) This would then allow the printer to work wirelessly (However it doesn print as it just shows ready with one in queue)

The main problem is how to arrange the cables so that I can have both the desktop and the laptop to use the printer.

I have thought that connecting the printer cable between the printer and a usb splitter box (4 slot) with another cable running from that to the cable and the final cable from the usb splitter running to the computer - Or am I thinking outside the box too much ?

I have tried following the guide of printer setup but I cant figure out how I can get both to work from it as the instructions just say connect it into the server and thus my desktop is cut off from the printer altogether.

Here are the instructions from the hp site>......

Any help would be much appreciated

Is the printer connected to a computer using a usb cable or is it connected to the wireless router using a network cable?

The printer is connected to the desktop pc using a normal printer type usb cable, to connect it to the server (HP) its just a case of moving it from the desk top into the server slot........

The printer WON'T work wirelessly with the desktop, only the laptop, as the desktop does not have a wireless network adapter. (unless the printer has 2 usb ports, one for the wifi print servr & one for connecting to the desktop)

You'd be better off with a print server that connects to the wifi router using a cat5 cable, that way any comp on the network can print to the printer.
