I've been using PCMag's ClipTrak utility for several years now, and find it extremely useful, if not indispensible. It'll even run in Win XP for me, which surprised me at first. However, after installing NAV 2009 last night, I find that ClipTrak no longer responds. After playing about with it for some time, I've come to the conclusion (?) that Norton's new, improved Anti-Virus scan sees the utility as an iteration of the virus "ClipTrak ", and is refusing to let it initialize. Questions:

    1. Am I correct in assuming that this Norton element is responsible for the loss of the utility, or should I be looking elsewhere?
    2. Is there anyone out there who has a hint about easing the restrictive nature of NAV's protection in this case - I haven't yet set out on the torturous search for information from that depth of the computer galaxy - I just like the product...?
    3. Might this conflict be avoided if I upgraded to ClipTrak2? I'm so keen on the utility that I might be coaxed into making the investment to obtain the d/l, or would NAV be adamant that it looks too much like a virus to allow it go be active .

I know that this is a bunch of reading, but I decided to try and cover all aspects of the problem at once. Thanks in advance for the help - I'm always confident that it'll be forthcoming at THIS site.

    Garth

For people like me that have never heard of it:

If the problem started right after you installed NAV, that would narrow down the issue..Have yopu been through NAV settings with a fine tooth comb?

    Hi Gus,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The Clip Trak utility should work with Norton AntiVirus 2009 as long as you have the most recent version of ClipTrak and are not infected.

    Please follow the steps below.

    1. Open Norton AntiVirus and click on the "Quarantine" link and see if there are any files associated with ClipTrak that are in the Quarantine. If so, choose to restore the file(s) to their original location.

    2. The next step is to submit this file to Symantec for analysis. To do so, click on the following link and follow the instructions.

Upload a suspected infected file to Symantec

When you submit the file you will be given a submission tracking #. When you receive this number, please send it to me via PM.

If there were no files related to the utility found in the Quarantine, then I would like to have you entire security history log so that I can analyze it.

    1. Open Norton AntiVirus and select the "History" link at the top of the window. Click on the pull-down menu and choose "Full History, "

    2. Click on the "Export" button and then save the file to your Desktop. (default name is "Full History.mcf.) Either add this saved file to your next post or include it with a PM to me.

The other steps you can try are to disable various features of Norton AntiVirus

    1. Turn off Tamper protection. Start Norton AntiVirus, click "Settings" > Miscellaneous settings and turn off Norton Product Tamper Protection.

    2. Try to run Clip Track. Let me know if it runs. If it does not run, go to step # 3.

    3. Turn off Auto-Protect Start Norton AntiVirus, click on "Settings," and then turn off Auto-Protect. Choose 15 minutes from the menu that comes up

    4. Try to run Clip Track. Let me know if it runs.

Lastly, make sure that "Auto-Protect" is re-enabled.

    Thank you,
    Mike

Mike: thanks for the information. I've come to the conclusion that my problem with ClipTrak is more likely just another hiccup in an OS which is becoming increasingly more corrupted with time and use. I'm just getting organized to the point of prepping a new HDD and doing a clean install - just want to wait until the taxes are done so as not to leave myself in the hole for filing. This machine is really a mess, and I've been putting off the inevitable for too long. I'll cut this short for now but tomorrow I'll post again with my concerns regarding how a reinstallation of NAV 2009 affects the maximum allowable before my subscription gets locked out (I've been trampled by THAT moose before).
    Regards,
    Garth.

    Hi Garth,

I can help you out with re-downloading the installer for NAV09. Your subscription is valid for the period for which you paid. If you receive any error messages relating to your subscription, please let me know what the message says.

In the meantime, after you reinstall and update Windows (make sure you install all of the Microsoft patches before reinstalling Norton AntiVirus), and then follow the instructions below.

    1. Make note of your current Activation Key.

    2. Visit the "Downloads and Orders" page at the link below and select the "Download" button next to Norton AntiVirus.

    Re-download Norton AntiVirus installer

    3. Run the installer and use your current Activation Key to activate the product.

    4. When the installation is complete, launch Norton AntiVirus and select "Run LiveUpdate." This will not only download and install the latest updates, but will also invoke the new "Pulse Updates" feature which will check for and install updates in the background every 5-15 minutes, as long as you are connected to the internet.

Let me know if you experience any problems with the installation or your subscription.

    Thanks,
    Mike
