    I have a Dell Latitude D600, I'm having problems with the Sony CDRW/DVD CRX830E.

The CDROM will auto detect the CD being inserted, however instead of reading the content it will recognize it as a blank CD and ask if I want to burn something. It will not recognize an audio Cd or a DVD. I've tried two different CD's (also 2 audio CD's and 2 DVD's) and it does the same thing.

All these CD's and DVD's work on my desktop computer. I'm hoping that someone has a fix for me and not the bad news that I might have a bad ROM drive :(

    Thanks in advance.

Try cleaning the lens. If it fails then you would have to replace the drive.
