I'm trying to copy a couple of shortcut desktop icons from 1 computer to another but I am losing the graphic picture of the icon and just have a default icon.

How do I grab the whole thing incl the graphics?

I tried copying from the desktop as well as the Documents and Setting > user > desktop but the results are the same.

You'll need to check the properties on the first location and click the Change Icon button. Note where the name and path of the icon source file.

When you copy and paste the shortcut to the new location, get the properties and click the change icon button again. Browse to the same path as the old icon was located and select it.

If that path and file isn't available on the new location, which I suspect is the case, you can copy the icon source file to the second computer and place it in a new folder that you can name as you like. I call mine Avatars since I use it for those mainly. Then point the change icon function to that location.

Alternately, you can install the same program and in the same path location on the second computer to match the first computer. You can see the possibilities...

    surferdude2,

That doesn't seem to work. If I choose Properties > Change Icon, I see "Look for icons in the following ":

    %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll

but that doesn't have the custom icon.

I'm on a LAN with my 2 computers. I can copy the icon from the old Desktop into the new Destop folder but when I switch back to the new computer, the icon has defaulted to generic.

I found it. I had set up a c:\Icons file collection a long time ago that had the icon.

But there's no way anyone would know from the Properties box??

    thanks

Well, that's strange since any time I check the Properties and click "Change icon," I am immediately presented with the location of the current icon as a starting place. ??

Oh well, so long as you have it working, all's well that ends well.

    All the best,

    Dude
