I am unable to reach a known good website. I use Firefox 2.0 on WinME (yeah, I know, I know…). I’m looking after a place for some folks and use my own PC hooked to their Linksys router. I’ve followed every connection-troubleshooting guide I could find over the last 2 days with no success. I activated DNS, didn’t help. I’ve learned just enough to ping and traceroute which seems to show the problem here at the router. WinME doesn’t offer a lot of options and it looks like the settings for the router would be on their PC, which I can’t access. Is that correct? Incidentally, I had my other PC (WinXP, Firefox) hooked up to this router earlier and it was the same story. I have antivirus, firewall and a couple anti-mal/spyware apps, all with updates and recent scans . This has become a very interesting exercise for me and I’d like to dig a bit further.

I assume that a single website could be excluded but that’s just not likely in this case. From the information I’ve read that relates to their router, barring a single website would be better achieved through a software firewall. By the way, the site I can’t reach is Sourceforge or any product that’s linked to a Sourceforge page. The site is functional, as far as I could determine. I use the web extensively and there’s no other problem with site access. I’d gladly hear some thoughts on this.

Most probably an issue with ISP.

Happened to me last year. www.ntcompatible.com was blocked for 3-4 months without any reason. OpenDNS did not work. Even giving the IP address did not work.

Then one day it started working on its own .

Hi TonyT. After using your posted link to sourceforge.net, I get this message: "The connection has timed out. The server at sourceforge.net is taking too long to respond> "

I think there may be a problem with the site - I tried to download JavaRa from there today and the home page simply looped - downloaded from elsewhere :)

For what it's worth, this sourceforge access thing has been a problem for me on-and-off for quite awhile. I used to google it, find nothing, chalk it up to some sort of site problem. I have accessed it before, many times but I can't be more detailed about when. Finally, I decided to post here, who knows what I'd turn up? Nice, that you folks try to help.
