I have noticed that some computers display My Documents (and Shared Documents) in the My Computer "folder ". These are not displayed on my computer, and I would like them to be. I've seen a few posts about this on this forum and others, however none of them solved the problem for me.

I should mention that My Documents directory was moved to C:\Projects, by right-clicking on My Document on the desktop and changing the target folder. I'm not sure if this is when My Document stopped appearing in My Computer, or if it has always been that way (configured that way by corporate when they imaged the machine).

In addition my account is not a local machine account, but a rather a domain account.

When I first looked at the registry key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/DocFolderPaths
It did not have a value for my account, just the administrator account. I tried creating one where
    Value Name=myusername
    Value Data=C:\Projects
However this did not work. I also tried creating one where
    Value Name=MYDOMAIN\myusername
    Value Data=C:\Projects
And this did not work either.

    Any ideas?

It sounds like there is some restriction on your user account that prevents you from viewing those icons. You will need to check with your system administrator.

It could also be a case where your shell32.dll needs re-registering. If that be so, I'd recommend getting Dial-A-Fix (freeware) and running it with all boxes checked.

If you aren't allowed to install programs, you can re-register the dll manually by typing regsvr32 /i shell32.dll in a Run window and pressing OK.

My account is in the administrator group. I perused the Group Policy settings and didn't see anything that looked like it would be related to this problem. I had seen someone mention that the following policy might be related to this problem, so I checked for it specifically, but it was not defined: Local Computer Policy -> User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Desktop -> Remove My Documents. The only Administrative Templates I have are for Search, Windows Media, & Windows Update. No software restrictions were defined. Nearly all of the rest of the policies were related to password, domain, and network settings. Any ideas of policies to check for?

    I tried that, no luck.
