You will need to pad out some of the detail of what you have done ....
otherwise we are working in the dark ....

What sort of USB drives? Are you referring to external hard drives or pen drives or .....?

    Do other USB devices work?

Have you been into Device Manager and uninstalled/removed all the USB controllers and root hubs and rebooted to permit Windows to redetect them and tested?

If we are to help to resolve this problem we need to know the detail :)

oh yea. that would help you out a lot huh. haha.

i have done everything on this web page:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900

*I did methods one and two; I also did the fix it for me workaround. None of them worked. What happens is that, whenever i plug a usb cable/flashrive the bubble comes up in the lower right corner saying that it is not recognized.

Two further things to try .....

Do the USB drives work on another computer - likewise the pen drives?

Have you tried replacing the USB cable on the drives which use them, ext. hard drives?

Have you tried to install a PCI USB2 card and test from there.

    Hi Hawk,

I am a little late, my internet has been down.

It might be a little early to suggest a PCI USB card. A PCI card might be a suggestion if there seems to be a physical problem with the USB system, but if things are not recognised, I would be looking at drivers first.

Some people may not have a USB PCI card handy:).

Taking out and reinstalling drivers is what I would try first. With that though, if Windows does not have the correct drivers available, you will need to seek out drivers. USB drivers will be included on the drivers disk that came with the computer. There could be updated drivers at the hardware manufacturer's website. Usually, USB (controller) drivers are included with the chipset drivers at the hardware manufacturer's website, they may be a separate download.

I would check the drivers thoroughly before purchasing a USB PCI card.

    Matt
