    Hi,
When i start up my pc and click on my user name, windows explorer doesn't start. I have to press ctrl alt delete and then start 'explorer' for the icons to appear. ive tried searching this problem, and following some of the advise, but so far nothing has worked.
    thanks,

    Hello sham,

Do you mean your having logon problems at the welcome screen or have to start explorer by using taskmanager?

If this is a taskmanager manual start of explorer.exe

Explorer shell is started by winlogon hkey in the registry. The fact that you are having an explorer shell problem is a red flag that you should eliminate viral/malware as a possibility. While I could tell you how to manually find, check for and fix this, if infected it may only make the cleaning of system more difficult.

May I recommend that you read this:

Follow directions and post as directed in the "malware/virus " forum of this board.

    Well hello sham,

It's been so long I had almost given up on your return to windowsbbs. Thanks for the update. Ordinarily I would have also told you that if after you've been checked (and cleaned, if this proved necessary) and problem persisted that additional instructions could be included to fix this. In your case, though, the problem will be detected and fixed as part of the scanning/screening for viral/malware checkup, regardless if your infected or clean.

Software used in the virus/malware forum will check for and correct it.

    Your most welcome.
