    G'day guys,

really hope someone can help me out of this situation.

Was uninstalling Bitdefender 2009 due to it somehow deleting its own file/s after saying it detected a trojan. Services and the program stopped altogether thereafter, so I uninstalled it successfully and tried to re-instal it. I was asked tp download the latest version, ran the install and BD did a final cleanup of the remaining old files and asked me to reboot to complete the procedure.

Did the re-boot and that's where i got this error.
    c00021a fatal error..(status of 0x0000005).

I tried booting in all the available options in F8, but none work, and keep getting the BSOD error.

What are my options? Tried to read some of the prior threads containing this error but seems everyone was able to get in throught either safe mode, DSR or Last know good logon...

I am on a friends PC now.

Much appreciated for any advice or help.

It looks like BitDefender has fouled up your system .....
The way back is not clear - a lot depends on the type of XP installation CD that you have.

If you have a full retail copy of XP then I would suggest a Repair of XP

If you have a Recovery CD the only option available to you is to use it, but be aware that the drive will be reformatted and any data lost.

If you have a current backup this is clearly not a problem, but if not I suggest you connect the drive as a slave to another computer and copy the data off. Then reinstall in your computer and recover. I would suggest doing this anyway even if you have a retail XP CD and can repair the installation - nothing is foolproof :)

I doubt this is a hard drive problem, but a check would be worthwhile using the drive manufacturer's disk diagnostic software .....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Hi Pete

    Thanks for the reply.

I managed to run the Repair option using my Win XP disc. All seemed fine and I got the system back up and running, so I thought.

After using the system for about an hour, inc. the internet. I logged off and everything shut down normally. After logging back on later, I couldnt reconnect to the internet, either through the network (NIC) connection or wireless.

Tired to un-install the drivers for both of these, but they failed to uninstall, so I ran the repair process again, and again all seemed well, was able to get onto the internet etc, and same thing again. Log off, shutdown, when I started up the system, again I lost my internet connection.

I have a friends laptop right beside mine which I am using until I get mine sorted, and there is no problem with the internet connection as her's works fine on both ethernet & wireless connection.

So now i am baffled as to why as soon as I shutdown my system & restart I am unable to get onto the internet.

Everything else seems ok, aside from a few missing icon displays (yet when clicked on the programs work fine).

I know if i go through the repair process again i will get back onto the internet, but I know as soon as i Log off and get back in later, same thing will happen.

I don't want to go through a total re-install if i can somehow save this as I just did onea couple of weeks ago.

    Regards

Do you have the same problem if you start in Safe Mode with networking?

Just did the 'repair' again for the 3rd time and the internet is fine.

Pete, I didn't try it Safe Mode (Networking), actually didn't think about it.

Would trying to uninstall the drivers for NIC & Wirelss through Device manage then re-installing them with the Drivers (Dell) disc I have be an option.

It's working now but I know as soon as I shutdown, and then startup again i will lose the connection to the internet.

    I would try that.
Worth a try, but I would do that in Safe Mode.

However I don't think it to be a driver problem - I cannot see why a driver should stop working after a reboot unless the 'wrong' driver is being loaded at boot or something is preventing the driver to be loaded or the connection from being made.

    Re-reading your first post ....
I am thinking malware and suggest you head over the the Malware & Virus Removal forum .....

There is an announcement at the head of the forum .....

My apologese Pete, I should have update and let you know that after the 3rd repair, I shutting down and getting back on and to my surprise the internet has been working ever since.

Its at that point i did those scan & found (actually already knew this) the malware & trojans, so I think this thread can now be closed, as it was originally for the c000021a BSOD.

Nevertheless I am sure I am badly infected and will work with the malware/trojan experts on this one.

    Thanks heaps for your help.
