as the title states Windows media player 11 will not add music to its library.

i have been searching google, irc for a few days for a solution and they all say the same thing

"C:\Documents and Settings\Sean\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media, and delete the things in there, and restart, then it should work "

something along troughs lines is all i ever find online, that didnt work, i have also tried re-installing, gone into reg-edit and cleaned that out, the only thing i havent done is something i am NOT looking froward to doing, reformatting my computer

the problem im having is this, i had a ton of "broken" links (linked to songs that where no longer there..) so i deleted EVERYTHING (but kept it all on harddrive), and went to re-add the files (i have done this many times in the past), how ever when i went to re-add them, they we NOT added to the library!, so i checked the "monitored" folders, NOTHING was listed in there, so i added my music folder, clicked OK, and again nothing happened, so i went back to re-add the folders, and again, NOTHING was listed in there, i did this a few times before just giving up on it, then i tried to add them via drag&drop no luck there, so i went threw the "options" in WMP11, and i noticed one that said something like "add files once they are played ", so i played some files, (surprisingly that worked! i could actually LISTEN to my music!), BUT they were not added to the library!... no matter what i do nothing will get added to the library, its actually quite annoying not having my music playing while im doing this, on a side note i also have Windows Media Center on windows 7, and its also having the same problem, but as im using windows XP mainly i dont really need windows media center....

ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried this, in it's entirety?

    http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary

It's does supply a link ms article fix but also offers a more detailed help how-to on other things that may prevent this fix from working.

This site may have additional things you can try. It's worth a read.

I don't have version 11 but version 10. I did follow directions though and renamed "media player" folder (to MP). Opened media player and hit the library tab and it immediately asked me to scan for media files, which scanned per my options and rebuilt the library. Noticed on tools on the menubar I have option to rescan and add locations when I chose, with various options.

Also noticed I have to rebuild playlists but that's drag and drop and shouldn't be a problem.

    ------------------
Seen on the above site link: directions for making a second account and once media player is opened and files scanned etc. See below: (while this specifically mention version 10 I don't see why it wouldn't hold true for 11 as well. Can't hurt as this is a file that is rebuilt if deleted.

If that doesn't work, create a second user account. That user should have a working library in WMP. Copy that user's library (*.wmdb ) over to your original user account, and it should be working fine then.

    ------------------
What options are you using when you use Tools>scan for new media? Have you clicked on the advanced button and checked that out?

Have you taken a look in your documents folder>My Music folder to see what is in there? Do you have old playlists?

you are indeed a GOD =D

i had originally sharing turned off via Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services, then MANUALLY shut off windows media sharing, so when i started up windows media player (even after deleting the files) it kept asking me to "start" sharing, finally (3:30 am =_=) i decided ok hell with it, im going to accept, if it doesnt work ill backup everything tomorrow and reformat.... as soon as i hit accept, guess what!, my **** media started to add itself!! =D HAZA!, i guess when your database contains 36gb of self recorded vinyls that could possibly mess up the database quite bad when you delete EVERYTHING in one go eh'?, anyways thanks so much =D, that link (after clicking a few other things in there) i came across a post with someone that accepted and it worked.

like i said thanks so much =)

    Hi SeanChiarot,

Good news indeed! I'm so glad for you. So media sharing was the key ingredient in this recipe, huh. That's an interesting fact to know.

Your most welcome and thanks for the update. :)
