    Hi again,

    A new problem I have.

In Netscape 4.xx, one could put -h as a startup option to go to a certain URL without one having to change the Preferences. Shown below:

[ Right clicking on Netscape icon- Properties - Target:
    "c:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape.exe" -h http://www.windowsbbs.com ]

I noticed in NS 7 this -h handle doesn't work.
What is the handle that does the same job? There has to be a way to make a particular icon of Netscape opening with a different URL.

    Thanks.

    Hi JagmoN,

You do that in Preferences in Netscape 7.0. If there is a command line, I haven't seen it yet:

    Preferences|Navigator
Under "When Navigator starts up, display "
    Enable "Home page "

Then in the Home page location bar, enter the page you wish Navigotor to use for startup.

Here is a list of Command Lines, and I will be adding more as they are available.

Thanks Ramona. This one I knew.
This method will enable all the Netscape instances to start with that page which I enable in the Preferences.

If I can find the handle that does the job, I can have multiple Netscape instances doing starting with different pages just like 4.7x

So, as I'm looking you keep looking too

Is this what you mean? Adding a space then the URL in your shortcut target? You would do this to open Netscape 4.7x to a specific URL without changing the Home page in Preferences.

For example, NS 4.79, only one profile:

    "C:\Program Files\NETSCAPE\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe" http://www.windowsbbs.com

(you add a SPACE after ...netscape.exe" then add the website URL)

Adding the URL works also in Mozilla 1.0.1 which is similar to NS7. I have this in the shortcut target. I'm using multiple profiles, so I have -P "wyman" then a space, then the URL.

    "C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla\mozilla.exe" -P "wyman" http://www.windowsbbs.com

    JagmoN,

You can also drag any Bookmark to the Desktop and accomplish the same thing, with the exception of the specific Profile.

Assuming Netscape7 is the default browser?

I have Internet Explorer 5.5sp2 as my default browser- Internet shortcuts created with Ramona's method open in Internet Explorer. When I had Netscape 4.79 as my default browser, Internet shortcuts didn't work at all!

    Alice,

Yes, assuming Netscape 7.0 is the default browser.

When Communicator 4.79 was my default browser, I could drag any Bookmark to the Desktop, and create a shortcut. I could also drag any Bookmark to my Start button and create a shortcut there.

    Dear Alice and Ramona,

    Thanks guys.
Alice, your suggestion of using the URL after a space of the Target file worked. I never thought you can do this without using a handle such as -h. That's great.

Ramona, the idea of dragging bookmarks to desktop just didn't occur to me. But as I think of it - it makes perfect sense.

    Keep up the good work,
    JagmoN:cool:

    Glad that worked, JagmoN.

Ramona, it's nice that your method worked for you in Netscape since dragging a bookmark or icon from the URL location field to the desktop or Start button is lots simpler. it just didn't work for me, maybe after I installed IE5.5 even though I reset NN4.xx as the default? Who knows, I'm just glad I found an alternate route to the same result.
