Take out the manual of the router & follow the instructions?

I wouldn't know what the wording & menu's of your router's software are.

Open a browser window, type 192.168.1.1 into it and press Enter.

I don’t use a Linksys but I think the default user name and password is admin and admin. Look for a section named setup or similar wording and you should be able to change the access details.

Follow BurrWalnuts instructions but default is no user name with admin as the password. You'll find what you need to change under the heading Administration.

The answer lies in the two previous posts!

    Bob,

This is where your wording becomes critically important to a solution. Please bear with me. You asked how to log into your linksys router and change the user name and password. As BurrWalnut just responded with 100% accuracy, the answer was in the previous two posts. Type http://192.168.1.1 and at the login screen, use no user name and use admin for the password. Then go to Administration in the Linksys menu and make whatever change you want to make. However, this is apparently not what you were looking for.

    Now, let me elaborate
No you didn't - you put in 192.168.1.1

However, this is apparently not what you were looking for as evidenced by the following.
This is a totally different issue if one assumes that you have a wireless access point included among your networking devices. Please don't take offense at the way I am answering your inquiry. Your initial inquiry has been answered - how to change the user name and password of a Linksys Router.

Now, maybe you want to rephrase exactly what it is you are looking for rather than forcing us to make assumptions by reading between the lines and speculating.

    ;)

If you cannot access the router details using the ’default’ settings, it means the details have been changed!

If you haven’t made any changes to any settings in the router, you can (probably) press a button or pin on the back of the router to set it back to factory settings, then access it using the default settings.

If you have changed, say, wireless SSID and Security Key, these will have to be rekeyed into the router.

OK - lets try a couple of things.
First, with the user name left blank, try Admin with a capital A and the rest lower case. If that gets you in, follow the previous instruction and go to the Administration screen.

If that doesn't work, you will manually need to reset your Router to its factory defaults which are blank in the user name field and admin in the password field. This is done by using a pointed object and pressing the reset button on the back of the router when it is plugged in and powered up.

Warning - if you do not know your ISP user name and password along with any customized settings, do not attempt this yourself as it will kill your connectivity until the correct information is entered.

It sounds to me like someone setup your Router with a User name and Password and it has either been forgotten, misplaced or is unknown to you.

    ;)
