    Hi,

I just purchased yesterday a Toshiba A300. Everything is working fine except the wireless connection.

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and the laptop has installed the following driver:

Intel 802.11b Wireless LAN Driver 1.2.5.37

But can not detect any wireless network. Also, I checked the BIOS and it appears that WLAN is not enable.

    Can anyone help?.

    Thanks.

Some laptops have a features to turn on or off the wireless network radio. Can you verify that the radio is on? Have you looked for a newer driver, or tried using the Native Microsoft driver?

Yes, the wireless switch is on and the combination of Fn+F8 say that wireless is activated, but can not detect any wireless network. I am beginning to think that the wireless adapter is not in the laptop as if I go to network adapters, can only see the ethernet one.

Do you know if I can install that myself?, or would it better to take back the laptop to the shop?.

Thanks very much for your help.

    1. Look in Device Manager to see if the wireless adapter is present.

    2. Check the status of two Services:
Click the Windows Orb (Start) > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Services. Make sure "˜Wired AutoConfig’ is Started and set to Automatic for a wired connection and "˜WLAN AutoConfig’ is started and set to Automatic for a wireless connection using the Windows software. Also, look at the Dependencies Tab and make sure the dependents have been started.

    3. Perhaps no networks in your vicinity are broadcasting their SSID, hence you see nothing?

    4. To connect a wireless-enabled Vista computer to a network for the first time, go to Control Panel > Classic View > Network and Sharing Center > Set up a Connection or Network (in the left pane) > Manually Connect to a Wireless Network > Next. Type in the Network Name (SSID), select Security Type and type in the key. You may also want to tick "˜Start this connection automatically’ and "˜Connect even if the network is not……‘ > Next. Lastly, click "˜Connect to‘ and you should connect to the network. Subsequent connections will be automatic.

    Hi BurrWalnut,

Thanks very much for your help. I looked for the adapter and couldn´t find at all. Finally, I took the laptop to the shop, and they said that this is common problem with Toshiba A300 series and they are seing it very often.

It seems that the adpater is there, but not installed, and it is not Intel, so it appears as unknown adapter.

Finally, everything is working fine!. Thanks for all your help.
