What causes your page to smear when you scroll?

Hi, I'm using windows 98se. Just a minute ago I looked on my thread page to see if anyone had answered back yet, and when I scrolled the page smeared. It stayed that way for 10 or so seconds then straightened back up. I get this alot on other web pages. Does anyone know why?

Does this only happen when browsing or does it also happen eg when scrolling through a word document?

 

yep, pretty much just when i'm browsing wildfire. I don't think i have ever had it to do it when I had a word document going. It only does it for just a little bit.

 

Ok, thanks Arie! That sounds scary so I'm just going to have to live with it! Windows handles my virtual memory and I don't have a clue yet where or what the other two things are. Its just annoying and I'm just glad its not a virus or something! I thought for a minute maybe the Russians were spying on me! LOL Thank you

 

I've tried different Linux operating systems, and this site is problematic for the browsers on those distros, too (Opera, Seamonkey, Firefox, Konqueror, Dillo). Linux uses different drivers, of course, and this site is really ad-heavy, so I'm not sure this is entirely a video driver problem. I know for sure it's not just a Windows problem, because I just had to reboot Linux after this forum crashed my entire window manager.

Whatever happened to the good old days, when ads were just annoying animated GIFs you could turn off by using the ESC button, LOL!

To be fair I don't think this is an Advert issue but (although I don't subscribe myself) you can easily remove the adds by becoming a contributing member.

 

Man, I hear that! Dollar, dollar, everyone wants your dollar! I hate ads but with out them what would we have? No web site, thats what! Just like TV, with out commercials there would be no shows. Some times its hard for me to tell what is the info on the web site I'm looking at and what is a paid ad! I hate downloading something you think can solve your problem only to find out you have to pay for it. For example I ran a program that told you which drivers you needed to up date ( I had 6 or 7 ) but when I clicked on the update I discovered I had to pay. This can be very disappointing when your as cheep as I am. LOL
