With the first beta of Windows 7 available to the general public to download, I will take you through an overview of Windows 7.

This Windows 7 Beta is anything like a previous windows beta. It's feature complete, and looks and feels more like a Release Candidate (RC) build than a beta. We'll see over the next few weeks how the public will receive this build, when it will be put through its paces on thousands of different hardware/software configurations.

If you go to Windows 7 Forum and register you will see the good, bad, and uglies of Windows 7. You can get the same task bar facelift with Vista at objectdock.com
Just remember this is a "beta" version so just watch and read and don't make Win 7 your main OS unless you like doing a Recovery or Clean Install.

Although Microsoft have now stated that you will be able to upgrade from Beta 1 > RC > RTM, it is still the best to do a clean install of the RTM version.

When do you think (know?) that the RTM will drop? We're at the RC stage, correct?

For some reason, I'm nowhere nearly as excited about, or interested in, trying out beta or RC versions of this (albeit promising) OS, as opposed to the early stages of Vista.

I wouldn't know... until they announced it publicly (OK, I may know a day in advanced  ).

Now, they are saying "when its ready" and suggesting early 2010. Given Vista's January release & the negative influence that had on the holiday selling season, one would hope they aim for a Q4 2009 release.

Now, rumors are suggesting an early April (10th?) release of the RC build.
