    Hi all,

I got a customers computer (Toshiba Satellite) today to add some software and all the instalations went fine. i turned the computer off, packed it up, and took it back. I unpacked the computer at his house, plugged it in and there was no video(nightmare!!! :( ). The computer came on but you could not see anything on the screen unless you help it at a certain angle under a light, like a lamp. Then it was so dark I could barely see the mouse cursor. I am thinking that the lcd display is dying. Any thought's, idea's, suggestions?? I have priced these at certain part outlets across the web and they go for any from $199.99 to $835.00. I read that a video cable can "rarely" loosen itself with time from the video card or the motherboard??? Anybody heard this? What about the video card going bad??? A short???

    Thanks

xbot since it went dim so abruptly, I would suspect the cold cathode fluorescent lamp has failed. You could try the manufacturer for a replacement or try here for a possible remedy. It's worth a trip to this site just to see the neat script they are using to dog your cursor.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the quick response and the link (neat script). Any idea's on the cause of this type of tube failure?

That's just one of those little gifts from murphy. Of course the lamp could have a loose connection, but you'll have to hull it apart to determine that. I have been known to use the shock method to diagnose ailments of that sort but you must use your own judgement as to how hard to whack it. ;)
