    Dear Sir,

I am using MS Excel 2003.

Yesterday when i was in market i saw a man working on excel sheet.
To delete some rows he used a toolbar icon (Shape of the Icon was like
when we use formula editing toolbar). Since he was busy and i am in hurry i can,t enquire
him about this toolbar icon. At home i searched my toolbar but didn't find
any such toolbar support to delete row or column.

    Can any one help here.

    Regards,

    Gulam Dastgir

    Look under ....

View > Toolbars > Customise - Select category - Edit in the left hand column.

Scroll down the right hand column to Delete, Delete Rows, Delete Columns.

Click & drag the icon to the toolbar at the head of the main window.

Follow the same procedure outlined above ....

View > Toolbars > Customise - Select category - Edit in the left hand column.

Scroll down the right hand column to Paste Special.

Click & drag the icon to the toolbar at the head of the main window.

You will see that the "S" of Special is underlined - use Alt-C to copy and then Alt-S to Paste Special.

BTW - a simple Google would have found this for you :) ....

If I understand correctly that you want to paste a set of merged cells elsewhere then follow these instructions ....

Highlight the merged cells, right click > Copy

Highlight the first cell into which you want to paste - right click on it and select Paste Special. In the Paste Special options box which appears select those options you require and click on OK.

On the far right side of the upper menu seletions, there is a drop down called "HELP ".

I have from time to time found it to be quite helpful.

    Dear PeteC,

Why it not possible to copy on the merged cells.

Is it not possible to select options of value and formating simultaniously in paste special menu? If possible then how to do it?

    Regards,

    Gulam Dastgir

I am in no position to answer your detailed questions on Excel - I use it only on simple, personal spreadsheets.

The answers I have given you were sourced from a Google search - I suggest you do the same and move on up the learning curve.

YOU CAN COPY MERGED CELLS BUT THE MERGED ATTRIBUTE IS ALSO COPIED.
When you perform a paste (with merged cells on the clipboard), if you do not want the MERGED attribute to be pasted, you must perform a PASTE SPECIAL, and then you are limited to the options available in the dialog box, or develop custom VBA code to paste special other combinations than are afforded in the dialog box.

In Excel 2003, in the PASTE SPECIAL dialog box, in the right hand side of options, you have the option to PASTE SPECIAL VALUES AND NUMBER FORMATS.

If you also need to paste OTHER FORMATS, you'll have perform a second paste special or write custom code in VBA.

There are several excellent books for learning and training Microsoft Excel avaliable in multiple languages in multiple formats available over the internet or in book stores around the world.

    Dear Bilbo,

When i go for filling in series eg. from 1 to hundred, the formating of the
parent cell is also copied. Is this possible that in such cases that only series is filled
and format is not copied? This option, as i experienced, only possible when
the parent cell number is copied instead filled in series.

What are the importance of the various options available in series dialog
    box esp. linear, growth etc.

    Regards,

Of which I am aware, it is not possible to fill only values or formulas without also getting the format(s) of the parent cell(s).

The importance of the options in the Series dialog box are up to the user to decide.
The functionality of them is easy for you to determine by experimenting.

As a side note, i am surprized to see you exerting so much effort to get Excel to do something it is not prepared to do.
Getting around functionality limitations, particularly this limitation is quite simple and would take FAR less time to implement than you have already spent trying to circumvent its built in design.

    Dear Bilb0,

When we drag a cell from left to right positions of column get changed in the
formula eg A becomes B and so on. Is excel 2003 has any option that during
such drag positions of row get changed not that of column eg 1 becomes 2
    and so on.

    Regards,
    Gulam Dastgir
