I have purchased an Acer One with Microsoft Home and Student Office already installed on it. I have a valid product code key, spoke to Microsoft and they assured me I can use this key. I tried using Microsoft activation phone center but you have to have to have to have the activation wizard to use it. This is an automated call center and I have no idea where to find the activation wizard. The call center suggested using the weg site. I did this this, I found it too confusing to understand, The trial verdion inststslled has an activste button but it doesn't work. Does any one have any suggestions how I can avtivate office, Thanks for your help.

Perhaps this link might help you locate the Activation Wizard. Best wishes--after years of tinkering with alternatives, I do believe that MS Office is the best available, but I absolutely hate the way they make it so hard to update/activate their products.

    Paul,
Thanks for your suggestions. This is the website I was trying to use and found so confusing. I can find none of the functions that are referenced and I'm at a loss as to what to do.I wish I could just insert my disk but om the Acer, that's not an option.

Alright. If the problem is that you just aren't sure what to do, I might be able to be of some assistance (I just activated Office 2007 last night). If there is a technical glitch in your software, then you'll probably have to end up calling Acer. The computer OEMs typically handle support for the software that they sell to folks like you and me with the computer (at least, that's what I've always been told when I got programs at the same time I purchased the computer).

Let's work with a quote from one of the articles I linked to:

Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Program Name Options.
Click Resources, and then click Activate.

Can you actually start the program? When you get any of the Office programs going, click on the Office button on the upper left corner. Then, towards teh bottom right, will be (depending on which program you have opened up) Word Options, Excel Options, etc. Click on that button.

In the new window, on the left, click on Resources. Then, in the right pane, click on Activate.

Can you get to this point? If not, please explain what happens and what you are able to do.

I'm not sure I can be of any assistance to you--sorry. My suggestion would be to wait a day or two for folks here to tell you what you need to do--there are some smart cookies in this forum. In the meantime, I'd call Acer as they will be obligated to support that product--yes I know its software not hardware. Barring that, I'd just locate the program and the CD FIRST, then uninstall Office 2007 in the Programs section of the Control Panel, and then re-install it. But before doing that, I'd see if there isn't an easier option first--see if someone else can take you through what you need to do.

My big problem is Acer has no CD capibilities or I would have already used my disk. I will see what I can do with Acer, I already know Microsoft is not going to be of any help. Anyone else with any ideas, I'm receptive.
    Thanks for your help Paul

OK, If you reset your license key ..it might work...down are the seteps how to delete the DigitalProductID & ProductID from registry (as copied from another site): *do this if you have your genuine key*

    1.Close all Microsoft Office programs.
2.Click on Start button, then click on Run.
3.Type “regedit” (without quotes) in the Run text box, and click OK or press Enter.
4.Locate and then click the following subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

Inside, you will find another subkey that resembles the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{30120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}

5.Optional: Backup this registry branch by exporting the Registration subkey to a file, just in case the new product key does not work and you have to restore back the old product key. To export the registry, right click on the Registration subkey and click on Export, and follow the on-screen prompt to enter a file name for the registry file and choose a location to store it.
6.Under the Registration subkey, there may be several Globally Unique Identifiers (GUID) subkey that contain a combination of alphanumeric characters. Each GUID is specific to a program that is installed on your computer.
If you find additional subkeys that reference Microsoft 12.0 registration, then click and open each GUID subkey to view and identify the Office product version by the ProductName registry entry in the right pane. For example:

    ProductName=Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007

7.After you find the GUID subkey that contains your Office product or program which you want to remove the existing product license key or registration details, delete the following registry entries by right clicking on the registry entry in the GUID subkey, click Delete, and then click Yes:
    • DigitalProductID
    • ProductID

    8.Exit Registry Editor.
9.Run or open an Office application program, such as Microsoft Word or Excel or Outlook. Office 2007 will prompt you to enter a new 25-character product key.
10.Type in the valid and genuine product key, and then click OK.
11.Then when prompted to choose your preferred type of Microsoft Office 2007 installation, press on “Install Now”.
12.Microsoft Office 2007 will be updated with new product CD key or volume license key, and ready for activation (if it’s a non-VLK serial) or use.
Note: If you’re having problem with your new Office 2007 product key, simply double click on the backup registry .reg file created at the optional step above to restore the registry settings of the Registration subkey so that the original value can be imported back to the registry.

You could copy the CD to a USB stick and install from there - or across your home network if you have one. Used both methods on my Asus Eee PC which likewise has no optical drives.

OK now I see what you meant by "no cd capabilities." It didn't register that a new computer wouldn't have an optical drive.... anyways, another option is simply to d/l the Office 2007 Home and Student from MS' site. This might help if you can't get the cd files onto a usb drive. They offer 60-day trials. That's more than enough time to type in those good ol' 25-digit serial numbers.

Don't take this personally, but would you please edit your post and remove the product registration number?

That could be used by others....

In fact, MS does invalidate keys that are used by hackers/crackers whatever they're called so believe me its in your best interest not to have the info floating around

I don't see where my quick reply went through. I tried to click to give my product code key but it didn't work.

Nicoloe at Microsoft told I could use on 3 computers, I've used it on one.

Dee, again, please delete the serial numbers. The info would do nobody here any good, and they could be used to pirate software. Thanks for your understanding.

I don't know how to get it out of what has already printed, I'm too trusting. Can you do that or tell me how, which ever is quicker.
    Thanks for the alert.

It was an online trial version when I purchased the computer and I purchased the disk at that time to install. I wasn't thinking at that time about not being able to use the disk and the salesperson didn't remind me. It has an activate button for those with a key but I can't get it to function.

I really like Pete's suggestion of copying the disk to a usb stick but this is beyond my knowledge base, I had tried this earlier, trying to copy directly from one computer to another with the flash drive but it didn't work. Can someone help me with this? I appreciate all the help I've received.

Assuming you have access to a computer with a CD/DVD drive ....

Insert the Office CD into the drive, close it and hold down the Shift key until the drive light goes out - this bypasses the Autorun facility. If the install starts just click the Cancel button.

Plug in your USB stick - it will need to be 1 Gb minimum to contain a full CD (7-800 Mb)

Open Windows Explorer and click on the CD/DVD drive to display the contents of the CD in the right hand pane.

With the drive highlighted in the left hand pane - from the menu bar at the top of the window Edit > Select All

All the files and folders in the right hand pane should be highlighted.

Then do one of the following ....

Either click on the Copy to icon in the iconbar at the top of the window and in the window which appears select the USB stick > OK

    or

Right click on the highlighted files - Copy. Then click on the USB drive in the left hand pane to open it and right click in a blank area of the right hand pane > Paste

    or

Left Click on the highlighted files in the right hand pane and with the mouse button held down drag to the USB drive in the left hand pane and release the mouse button.

Whichever method you use a Copying dialogue box should appear with a line showing the copy progress.

Check that the USB drive contains the files and folders from the CD ....

    Job done :)
