I', replacing the dimm on an hp desktop that got wet after changing out the motherboardDoes anyone remember which side is the first side that the motherboard will see? I know i can try both since I have three slots, but I suspect one of the two I Dimms I have may be bad . I figure by knowing which side is seen first makes it easier. I did look at the layout of the board and see how they are numbered from one to three, but just to be sure i didn't want to assume that number 1 was the first one the board sees.
If anyone here knows, please chime in and let me know.
    thanks
    in advance.

It should be marked on the motherboard, DIMM0, DIMM1 and DIMM2. DIMM0 should be first. You should also see that DIMM0 is closest to the CPU.

If they are colour coded, you should check the motherboard manual. Two might specifically need to be filled first.

The manual doesn't specify which gets filled first, but it does list them as 1,2, and 3, no 0.. I've seen them listed with a 0 in the past, but not on this one.

If you just want to figure out which DIMM is bad, its advisable to test one DIMM at a time. If you insert all the DIMMs, the system may boot but would be unstable.

Addendum: If the DIMM were working ok before getting wet, chances are that they would be ok too. Dry them [don't put them in oven] thoroughly & then check them.

I beleive that this other board may be bad also. It boots all the way to the vide. I've tried A good video card one agp and one pci to rule out a bad agp slot. It very well could be something on the board linked to the memory.
I'll go for another board, if i can locate one.
