    How many Windows folders show in C:\ drive?

    Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup & Recovery - Settings and select the default Operating System from the drop down list and set the Time to Display list of Operating Systems to say 5 secs. When you are sure you have the right OS you can set this to 0.

    Alternatively you can edit the boot.ini file in the same window.

    Hi Pete,

    I've got this link:
    When you start your computer, the Boot options may show two or more Operating System entries, out of which some may be invalid.
    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/bootopt.htm

    Which explains how to use msconfig to edit the boot.ini. Are you aware of any problem with trusting msconfig's decision on checking for and deciding if path is valid, or would it still detect both as valid?

    Good find, Ann - I was not aware of that facility in msconfig :)

    From what the OP stated ....
    I would conclude that the first OS on the list is set as default. The msconfig function may well be the safest soultion to edit the boot.ini automatically if the second OS is not functional.

    If I may offer a heads up, I've never had any luck using msconfig to edit my boot.ini file. Try putting some invalid loader line in and you'll see what I mean.

    Another thing, if you have the Recovery Console installed as a boot option, msconfig will detect it as not being a bootable system and offer to remove it. :(

    Probably best to create a new account, you should not be running with administrator privaledges for day to day tasks.

    Control Panel -> User Accounts.

    Follow the wizard but change to a limited account when requested. Remember to set a password after you have created the user.
