After 9 years of using Windows 2000 Pro I built a new system using XP Pro SP3. The problem I am having is every time I open My Video Folder or put in a memory card out of my camera into the card reader and open the folder with the jpeg and AVI files a box comes up Data Execution Prevention. The message is "to help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program." When I hit the button that says close message it closes the folder I was using. Then another box comes up saying Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Closing that box out blinks the screen and the desktop reloads. Is there a way to turn off Data Execution Prevention? I do know about going into System Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Data Execution Prevention. That will let you turn off DEP on programs. I need to do it for folders.

After spend more time I find the problem is that any folder that has a AVI file in it as soon as the folder is open I get the Data Execution Prevention warning box. I don't even get time to click on the AVI file to open it before I get the warning. I can drag the warning box out of the way to the bottm of my desktop and then click on the AVI file and it will play in Windows Media Player 11.

Thanks to all that replied. I was thinking the problem was do with AVI files as that is what brought up DEP. The problem went away after I had DEP turn off Windows Explorer.
