(I know I say this alot, but sorry if this in the wrong area.) Ok, so I bought a Toshiba Gigabeat MET400 mp3 player online, but it didn't come with the driver disc. When I plug it into my pc, it recognizes it as a "gigabeat T series" and then Windows runs the Add New Hardware Wizard. When I choose to install driver's off the internet or Windows Update, it tells me it cannot find them, then the player isn't detected in Windows. No drivers=cannot transfer.

Now I have scoured the net all over to find the specific drivers, but haven't found a clear answer. Not even off of the Toshiba website. So is there any place online that I can retrieve these drivers? Or am I missing something as far as Windows(currently running SP3) or any programs therein?

Trying to cover all my bases, as I don't think the seller can find the original disc that came with the T400 after contacting. Thanks for any info.

    Found this:
That seems to suggest it could work using Windows Media Player 11.

Thanks Matt! Where did you find that info BTW?

Seems I might I have to upgrade to WMP 11 to get this to work without having the actual driver disc available. I'm currently running WMP 9. Hopefully 11 will have the necessary drivers I need.

Ah, good ol' user reviews! Thx

Also, would it better to uninstall WMP 9 first, before installing WMP 11? Or is it just fine to install it over WMP 9? I've had some programs run better (cough*Firefox*cough) when I uninstalled their previous versions first. Just curious is all.

Look for the installation instructions :p:D I haven't upgraded it myself, I run Vista with version 11 and I think when I used mine on Win XP, I was able to upgrade to version 11 using the Sony CD...sorry :D

There is no official uninstall routine for WMP 9 - I would make a manual system restore point (or disk image) and install OTT.

Try NOT checking the Internet or Windows Update for drivers (uncheck the radio button) and just let Windows see if it has the needed generic driver already.

    Problem Solved!

OK, so I installed WMP 11 via Windows Update and that did the trick! I plugged my gigabeat back in and Windows detected it as an MTP device (finally) thus allowing it to be "ready to use ". I guess 11 provided the drivers needed to function properly, sans disc. Whodathunk?

To Pete, I was just trying to see if there was an easy way of uninstalling WMP, before installing the latest one. Apperently there isn't. A quick check in the Add/Remove Windows Components list revealed that all I could do was just remove access to WMP 9 from the Start menu and Desktop. Seems installing over it was the easier road. Appreciate the info though!

To Tony, I now realized I hadn't tried that before my install. But doesn't the wizard check throughout the PC anyway, regardless? Still worth a shot, even though searching throughout this forum gave me the consensus that I should have upgraded to WMP 11 anyway (instead of staying with 9).

Thanks to all for the help! Unlike most others, this forum always impresses.
