Hi, i´m running XP Home SP3. Antivirus, antispam up to date and clear.
I have suddenly got a problem when working on the net, a pop-up constantly appears "This page has a potential security risk, do you wish to continue?"
On a complex site this means having an index finger as fast as lightning to try and keep up with the loading. I have´nt changed any security settings and am worried about the joints in my finger.
    Any suggestions appreciated. Jules.

I have not seen this before and there is scant detail on Google. You may like to check out the solution posted here .....

I saw that, but that's way back in 2006.

Maybe, it wasn't installed back then...?

This seems like a very time consuming excercise. Am wondering whether it would be quicker to remove IE and reinstall.
    What do you think?
    Jules.

As you have SP3 installed it is not that simple or less time consuming .....

IE and Windows XP Service Pack 3
Before you consider that try resetting IE7 - Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - Reset.

Another option, easily tested out, start IE in No Add-ons mode on the offchance that an add-on is causing the problem. Right click on the IE icon on the desktop > Start without Add-ons or Programs > Accessories > System Tools - Internet Explorer (no add-ons).

Should this prove successful in eliminating the pop up go to IE - Tools > Manage Add-ons and disable them all. Enable one by one, testing in between until the culprit is found.

So now i have a number of possibilities to choose from, almost like Xmas. My first idea is the simplest remove the KB file mentioned and see if that helps. If that is not satisfactory then its all down to the more time consuming.
Have just managed to restart my other PC. Missing NTLDR but have booted from a floppy.
So plenty to play with. Thanks so far.
    Jules.

Tried resetting IE7 Advanced-Reset, no difference.
    Started without add-ons, no difference.
Does this mean i should remove SP3, see how it behaves and then reinstall?
    Getting testy!

    Jules.

That's clearly an option, but with no guarantee of success of course.

Just reset security settings to Default.
That was all it took. Interesting article, it makes all the difference when things are explained.
    Thanks a lot.

    Jules.

It was my understanding that the Reset button in IE reset all settings to defaults - live & learn :) Glad to hear the problem is resolved.
