    Ok, here is the layout:

    Server 2K3 environment using AD
New computers with Windows XP and office 2K7

User created a new word document, and tried to save the file to her H:\ drive. She came up with the message:

"There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost. H:\Document name.docx "

    I have tried:

    1. Gave her full control of the drive and all the subfolders and made her the owner
    2. Disabled offline files
    3. Logged in as two other usernames
    4. Added the network drive to trusted sites in word
    5. Tried Saving VIA UNC, and IP path
    6. Deleted/Readded Mapped drive
    7. Tried saving to another part of the network
    8. Removed Mcafee antivirus
    9. Firewall is disabled
    10. Googled the hell out of it, tried various registry hacks
    11. Opening the file from the H:\ drive which i can do, but still cannot save it there

    What i CAN do:

Save the file locally and then move it
It is only word and Excel, everything else is fine

I am out of options. PLEASE HELP!!!

    I'll have a go. :)

When the (updated) file is saved, go to the Save As selection (a drop-down in the Save box, but I have hardly used Office 2003). Try saving it as compatible with an earlier version of Office (2003 down).

Look for compatibility patches from MS to work with earlier versions of the OS (Win XP) and maybe the server/AD (Server 2003).

    Try searching at Technet
    www.technet.com
Make yourself a user at their forum and ask there if you have no success. All your systems are MS based.

Thanks for asking here, but we are mainly end-user based. Your problem seems to cross many lines.:(

    hmmm

Maybe i did not communicate well to you...

This problem is only on one PC, and i have tried to save as a compatible version of word. It still does the same thing. The fact that I can save the document to the shared drive by copying it implies that it is indeed not a networking issue. Also the fact that I can save a document from word locally implies that there is really nothing wrong with WORD so to speak. This is why i think there is a security problem between word and networked drives. Word somehow thinks the network drive is not a good place to save the document because it will let me put the document there AFTER the error has occurred, but the document has 0kb in information.

    So strange...

Oh and technet was really no help. They had users with the same issue only it was Vista and that was offline files and someone else had CA antivirus that a patch came out for that.

Just a maybe. Are Macros enabled? The server's antivirus may balk at allowing the files to be saved if they are.

IF you go into task manager and go to the processes tab, which user is assigned to the word application?

    Okay

Well, the macro thing didn't work. I tried all options in the macro section. Also the user that is logged in is the user assigned to the process. They are also an admin to the machine. I also tried with different profiles. I ran and passed a microsoft office diagnostics pass just for the hell of it. Got anything else?

Well, I just setup a share on another XP workstation and I was able to share to that with no issues. I even set it up as a mapped drive. So what do we think the problem is?

    Semi-Conclusion

well it looks like we narrowed it down.

    1. We removed her workstation from the domain, Deleted it from A.D., rejoined it to the domain and tried it again.

    2. Now the user has TWO accounts. One is xxx and the other is xxxadmin. She does some admin stuff, so she uses two accounts.

    3. So she tried the xxx account and it worked! so we logged out and tried the xxxadmin account and it didnt work.

    4. So we tried the xxx account and it didnt work!

    5. Sooo....we had the user try this from another workstation with word 2007. She could not save. BUT here is the kicker, they don't have roaming profiles. So this PC created her domain profile and the problem followed her there!

    6. We tried the user that normally is on that computer and he had no troubles and he is a standard domain user.

    7. So we made one of her accounts a standard Domain user just like him and viola! she could save continuously. We tried adding her to various admin groups and they all failed. A.D is Messed up! the administrators group and anyone there of has some corruption going on. And now the REAL fun begins!!!

Check the permissions on the share folder. There may be an exclusion of member of admin groups.

    alright

I will let you all know how it goes. I think it may be in group policy. It is possible someone may have messed with Admin permissions in GP.

oh and to answer the question about shared permissions on the folders, that was checked already.
